Introduction
The Walkerswood Community Development Foundation has developed the Walkerswood Pepper Farmers Group, whose scope it is to work and sell as a farmers group with a membership of dedicated farmers. The purpose of this project is to expand the use of protected agriculture by the Walkerswood Pepper Farmers Group in order to allow them to meet the needs of hotels and restaurants, and to allow them to stand as an example to other farmers groups of the benefits of greenhouses. Through this funding, the group built two greenhouses based on a model created and developed by 2 members of the group. The design is more cost effective than what is currently available to farmers. The farmers were able to diversify the crops grown by the group, and enhanced the groups capacity. The greenhouses were built on land leased from the Government of Jamaica on a 50-year lease.
